these <p> tags are simply text. Think p as in paragraph?
p formats your text. If a user resizes the window it will resize aswell.
When viewing your page, try viewing it in 800x600 resolution, as I think that is what most people use.. use <pre> to get spaces to count (otherwise 5 spaces put in just counts as 1? use tabs...?)
you won't use pre very often...
<br> puts you on a new line
